Why It Matters
The only 5-star hotel in the Nantes metropolitan area and France's sole 5-star château-hotel near the Loire-Atlantique. Member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, holder of a Michelin Key, and Gault & Millau Table Gourmande 2026. The world-destination themed rooms concept — executed with actual antiques and artworks sourced globally — is genuinely rare.
The only 5-star hotel in the Nantes area, Château de Maubreuil is a 19th-century estate — former home of Marquis Albert de Dion, co-founder of the De Dion-Bouton automobile company — that spent seven years in full restoration before opening in December 2019. The concept is fully committed: 17 rooms and suites, each themed to a different global destination, set in 14 hectares of world-themed gardens in Carquefou, about 20 minutes from Nantes city centre. Baroque-meets-eclectic interiors, a Cinq Mondes spa in the vaulted cellars, and a Gault & Millau-recognized restaurant make this one of the most distinctive hotel openings in western France in recent years.
