Château Saint-Jean
Medieval castle meets pared-back contemporary luxury. Stone walls, gilded accents, and paintings of ancient botanical specimens sit alongside modern furnishings. Formal but not stiff — the park setting keeps things grounded.

Why It Matters
One of very few Relais & Châteaux properties in the Auvergne region. The Michelin-starred restaurant inside a genuine 12th-century Templar chapel is a genuine one-of-a-kind dining room. The oldest grave found on-site dates to 1148.
A 12th-century Knights Templar commandery turned five-star Relais & Châteaux hotel, sitting beside a 3-hectare park with a swan-filled pond on the edge of Montluçon. Owners Nicole and Jean-Claude Delion took over in 2016 and spent two-plus years on a full restoration, bringing in designer Patrick Jouin and architect Sanjit Manku to marry the medieval stonework with clean contemporary interiors. The headline attraction is La Chapelle — a Michelin-starred restaurant set inside the actual 12th-century chapel, complete with Romanesque vaulting and a resident pipe organ.
