Book La Table de Castigno well in advance — it fills up fast, especially in summer, and non-guests can also dine here

Why It Matters

One of France's most original hotel concepts: a genuinely distributed hotel woven into a living village, owned by the same Belgian family who revived the organic wine estate and earned a Michelin star for La Table. The iconic cork-and-bottle-shaped wine cellar — designed by Belgian architect Lionel Jadot — alone is worth the detour.

Château & Village Castigno is a Belgian-owned distributed hotel built into the colourful hilltop village of Assignan in the Saint-Chinian wine appellation of Languedoc. Its 21 rooms are spread across a dozen restored village houses — think cobblestone alleys as hallways and grape-hued façades as signage. The whole thing started as an organic wine estate and just kept growing: Michelin-starred restaurant, microbrewery, spa, wine cellar shaped like a giant bottle. Rooms are intentionally WiFi- and TV-free to push a digital detox ethos.

Superior room / Junior suite

Cuvée Millésimée Room

The step-up room, ranging 25–35m², split between two locations: four on the first floor of La Maison des Amis and one standalone in La Maison Vic in the village centre. Each is named after a Château Castigno vintage and decorated in the colours of wine lees — deep purples and reds — with Languedoc stone walls, hanging lamps, bespoke furnishings and designer objects. The signature feature: a shower that opens directly onto the bedroom. La Maison Vic is a detached maisonette with kitchen and living room area, separate from Maison des Amis.

Cuvée Prestige Suite

Three spacious suites, 50–90m², spread between La Maison 1660 and L'Écurie (the converted stables) in the village centre. Immediately striking with eclectic décor: old stonework, parquet flooring, brightly coloured walls, natural materials, original artwork and antique trinkets. Each has a bathroom with shower and large living area. The suite in La Maison 1660 has a large roof terrace with views to the distant horizon. Extra bed or baby cot can be accommodated.

Cuvée Tradition Room

The smallest room in the Maison des Amis category at just 12m², but what they lack in space they compensate with views. Two rooms available, arranged on the first floor of La Maison des Amis in soft pink and mauve tones with timber finishings and a vintage style that nods to old winegrowers' homes. Bathroom with separate toilet. Upstairs position means you get sweeping views over the village rooftops and the setting sun. Adjacent to the outdoor pools.

A spacious, airy suite in the village centre, two minutes from reception. The bedroom overlooks a living room below, creating a generous sense of scale. Designed as a proper recharging space — calm, well-proportioned, and quieter than the more centrally social rooms.

Vendangeur Room
Standard room

Vendangeur Room

The entry-level room and arguably the most characterful. Fifteen square meters of winegrower-chic: bold wall colours named after grape varieties (Syrah, Carignan, Grenache and more), queen-size bed, natural wood, ethnic design touches. Eight are clustered east of the village in their own dedicated buildings; three others (called Grâce des Anges) are on the ground floor of La Maison des Amis. Every single one has a private outdoor terrace overlooking a small landscaped garden. Each room also comes with two bicycles for private use. Bathroom has a shower and separate toilet.

The top of the range and the only standalone villa. 80m², fully detached in the east of the village, sleeping up to four across two double bedrooms. Has everything the main hotel rooms deliberately lack: WiFi, TV, full kitchen, living room, and — the big draw — its own private garden and swimming pool. Sun loungers by the pool, tree-shaded terrace for aperitifs, outdoor sofas for afternoon siestas. Room service is included. Minimum 3-night stay in low season; one-week minimum in July and August.
