Château & Village Castigno
Bohemian wine-country chic. Bold pinks, reds and purples everywhere — walls, parasols, bedding, even the flowers. Eclectic interiors mix Languedoc stone walls with Asian antiques, gilded mirrors, velvet drapes and original artwork. Convivial but never stuffy.
Book La Table de Castigno well in advance — it fills up fast, especially in summer, and non-guests can also dine here
Why It Matters
One of France's most original hotel concepts: a genuinely distributed hotel woven into a living village, owned by the same Belgian family who revived the organic wine estate and earned a Michelin star for La Table. The iconic cork-and-bottle-shaped wine cellar — designed by Belgian architect Lionel Jadot — alone is worth the detour.
Château & Village Castigno is a Belgian-owned distributed hotel built into the colourful hilltop village of Assignan in the Saint-Chinian wine appellation of Languedoc. Its 21 rooms are spread across a dozen restored village houses — think cobblestone alleys as hallways and grape-hued façades as signage. The whole thing started as an organic wine estate and just kept growing: Michelin-starred restaurant, microbrewery, spa, wine cellar shaped like a giant bottle. Rooms are intentionally WiFi- and TV-free to push a digital detox ethos.
