Chakrabongse Villas
Heritage royal boutique. The feel is more private family estate than hotel — intimate, art-filled, and genuinely storied. Each unit has its own distinct character, from a 19th-century Ayutthaya teak stilt house to a two-story Chinese-themed suite with a spiral staircase. Decor blends Jim Thompson silks, antique furniture, and eclectic owner-curated artwork.

Why It Matters
One of the very few hotels in Bangkok with a genuine royal heritage provenance. The owner's grandfather built it. The riverside location with front-row views of Wat Arun is unmatched at this scale. The restaurant serves daily-changing Royal Thai set menus from palace kitchen recipes — open to outside guests too, but reservations are essential.
Chakrabongse Villas is a seven-unit royal compound on the banks of the Chao Phraya River, directly across from Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn). Built in 1908 by HRH Prince Chakrabongse as a retreat from palace life, the property today is run by his granddaughter Narisa — who still lives on site. Seven rooms and suites sit within lush tropical gardens, with a riverside dining pavilion serving Royal Thai cuisine from original palace recipes. It is one of the most historically significant small hotels in Southeast Asia.

Bicycles available for guests to explore the historic old city district at their own pace — a great way to reach the Grand Palace, Wat Pho, and the Pak Khlong Talat flower market.
For guests wanting something more adventurous, midnight canoe excursions on the river can be arranged on request.
Explore the quiet klongs and traditional stilt house communities on the Thonburi side of the river with a private longtail boat and dedicated guide. A genuine glimpse of Bangkok life away from the tourist drag.
A private sunset cruise on the property's classic Riva speedboat, taking in the Grand Palace and riverside temples bathed in golden evening light. One of the most memorable experiences in Bangkok at this scale.
The nightly degustation dinner at the Riverside Dining Pavilion is itself an experience — multiple courses of Royal Thai cuisine from palace recipes, served by candlelight with Wat Arun directly across the river. Open to non-guests with reservations.
Saltwater outdoor swimming pool set within the tropical gardens. With only 7 units on property, it's almost always empty — guests describe it as having their own private pool.
