Chandolin Boutique Hotel
Alpine-chic with serious sustainability credentials. Think clean lines, raw mountain materials, monochromatic mountain sports photography on the walls, and a calm that comes from being genuinely remote at altitude.

Why It Matters
Voted Best Mountain Hotel in Europe 2019 by Geo Saison magazine. Michelin Guide selection. Design Hotels member. Holds the Minergie energy-efficiency certification with 100% pellet heating and 90% locally sourced food. The restaurant has 14 Gault&Millau points. Ella's Baths — two outdoor Nordic tubs heated to 38°C — overlook the high alpine peaks.
Sitting at 2,000 metres in Chandolin, one of Europe's highest permanently inhabited villages, this 4-star boutique hotel was completely rebuilt between 2013 and 2017 behind a preserved larch-and-stone façade. Inside, Extreme Artdesign Studio stripped everything back to natural materials: spruce wood detailing, unpolished stonework, raw fabrics, and earthy palettes, with floor-to-ceiling windows framing the Valais peaks. The result is 25 rooms and 5 apartments that feel genuinely alpine rather than resort-generic, backed by a 14-point Gault&Millau restaurant and outdoor Nordic baths.
