Why It Matters
One of the few château hotels where the organic philosophy is genuinely operational rather than a marketing label — the restaurant chef works directly from a biodynamic kitchen garden on-site, wines come from the estate's own Domaine de la Guicharde, and the Bio Spa uses only certified natural cosmetic brands. The restaurant Le M is listed in the Michelin Guide.
A 16th-century hunting lodge built in 1555 for Henri II and Diane de Poitiers, Château de Massillan sits within a ten-hectare walled park in the northern Vaucluse between Orange and Avignon. Owners Didier and Marie Perréol have turned it into a serious eco-luxury operation — Didier was a pioneer in bringing quinoa to France, and that same commitment to organic living runs through everything here, from the one-hectare certified-organic kitchen garden feeding the restaurant to the all-natural product lines in the 600 m² Bio Spa. The history is the backdrop; the real draw is how well the whole thing works together.

Lounge Suite
The flagship room — 100 m² with two king beds, two bathrooms, a sitting area, and a 30 m² private terrace. Designed for four guests. Marie Perréol decorated it with gold wallpaper and floral accents that feel opulent without being overwrought. Book well ahead.

A contemporary design pod set in the estate's grounds — 18 to 20 m², fully self-contained with private bathroom, air conditioning, and Wi-Fi. Positioned to open onto the outdoors and natural surroundings. Geared squarely at couples wanting privacy and a genuine digital detox experience. Small by any measure, but that's the point.

The family option, ranging from 45–77 m² with a mezzanine level sleeping younger kids on single beds. Walk-in shower and bathtub, private terrace, park views. One of the few château hotels that actually thinks through the practicalities of traveling with children.
