Roma Isola Tiberina
Tech-forward modernist design inside a mid-century shell. Bright Vitra furnishings, commissioned Roman street art on a 402 sqm hand-painted ceiling, curated chaos in the living room. Feels urban and energetic rather than hushed and formal.

Why It Matters
citizenM's Italian debut and the brand's only Rome property. The building was designed by architect Eugenio Montuori in the late 1950s — a rare mid-century frame that suits the modernist concept well. Roman artist Uno hand-painted the entire ground-floor ceiling as a tribute to the city. LEED and BREEAM certified. The self-serve rooftop cloudM bar (wine, beer, Aperol Spritz on tap by room key, noon to 10pm) is the headline draw.
citizenM's first Italian property, opened in late 2023 inside a renovated 1950s building right on the Lungotevere de' Cenci. It's not Roman luxury in any traditional sense — no frescoed ceilings, no marble concierge desks. What you get instead is sharp Dutch-designed efficiency: 162 compact rooms averaging around 20 sqm, every one of them identical and controlled entirely by iPad, paired with a rooftop bar that looks straight out over the Tiber and the ruins beyond. The location — Jewish Quarter, steps from the Forum and a 7-minute walk to Campo de' Fiori — is genuinely hard to beat at this price point.

Self-serve rooftop bar and terrace with city views. Wine, beer, and Aperol Spritz on tap via room key swipe. Colourful outdoor seating. Open 12pm–10pm. Room key required.
The hotel's public spaces double as a curated art gallery. Roman street artist Uno hand-painted the entire 402 sqm ground-floor ceiling (titled Guarda in Alto, 2023) as a tribute to the city. An art wall curated with Elisa Medde features works by Italian artists Piero Percoco (satirical commentary on modern Southern Italian life) and Camillo Pasquarelli (photographs of Rome's bars). Guest room art is sourced from Padua-based Polaroid photographer Andrea Tonnellotto. Art is woven throughout lobbies, corridors, and elevators.
One designer boardroom-style meeting room of 26 sqm that seats up to 8 people. Art-filled, air-conditioned, with superfast Wi-Fi and catering packages available (48-hours notice required). Can be booked for daytime or evening sessions. Dietary requirements accommodated with advance notice.
