Hill Country
Rustic-chic Texas glamping. Think safari camp meets ranch hand — cowhide rugs, antique-inspired furnishings, woven textiles, and cast iron. Earthy, intentional, and quiet. The land does most of the talking.
The property does NOT sell, distribute, or pour alcohol — and no outside alcohol is allowed in public spaces. Stock up before you arrive if you plan to drink privately in your tent.
Why It Matters
Nominated for Travel + Leisure World's Best Awards 2021. One of very few luxury tented retreats in the Texas Hill Country, occupying a genuine working organic ranch with a farm-to-table culinary program. Michelin Guide-listed. The setting — a sweeping ridge with wide views — is genuinely hard to replicate.
Collective Hill Country sits on a ridgeline of Montesino Ranch, a 225-acre working organic farm outside Wimberley — about 45 minutes from Austin. There are 12 luxury Safari-style tents built on elevated platforms, each with a king bed, private en-suite bathroom, wood-burning stove, and a deck with Adirondack chairs. It's a genuine safari-camp vibe transported to Texas Hill Country: 1,500-thread-count linens, Byredo bath products, and a French press waiting on your wood-planked deck, with mesquite and live oak stretching out over the ridgeline below.

Work with an expert to learn the basics of axe throwing, knife throwing, and bow and arrow. Offered for couples. A CR snack box with local bites is included after the session.

Rotating on-site culinary experiences including wine and barbecue pairings and other chef-led tastings. Details vary by season.

Guided horseback tours along the ranch trails. One of the signature activities at the retreat.
A 2-mile trail loops through the 225-acre Montesino Ranch with several benches positioned at scenic viewpoints overlooking the Hill Country. The terrain is manageable for most fitness levels. Trail can be muddy after rain.
Communal campfire each evening with a complimentary s'mores kit. Included as part of the $45/night retreat fee. One communal fire pit with limited seating (~6 chairs), so it's more of a drop-in rotation than a lingering sit-down.
Hammocks, cornhole, and various lawn games scattered across the property for casual downtime between activities.
Restorative sound healing sessions using live sound bowls, offered as part of the Collective Wellness program.
Outdoor yoga and pilates sessions available on the property, part of the Collective Wellness program.
