Why It Matters
One of the only remaining examples of large Italianate homes designed by architect Thomas Sully, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The bar is a genuine neighborhood institution. Earned a Michelin Key in both 2024 and 2025. Sister property to Hotel Henrietta next door.
A 1883 Italianate mansion on St. Charles Avenue that went from tobacco merchant's private home to wartime boardinghouse to one of New Orleans' most recognized hotel bars. Reimagined by owner Jayson Seidman of Sandstone Hospitality after a 2019 acquisition, the 20-room property holds a Michelin Key (2024 and 2025) and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The bar and restaurant are bona fide city institutions, drawing locals and guests in equal measure.

The best option for groups of four. Two Queen beds with either a walk-in shower or a clawfoot tub and shower combo depending on the specific room. Same uniquely decorated approach — no two rooms look alike. Can be connected to the Premier Avenue Suite as a Premier Double Suite Chambre.
2 x QueenGrande Chambre
Available on both the second and third floors, these are the most spacious standard rooms. King bed with a proper sitting area, and the bathroom includes a clawfoot tub alongside the shower — a real step up. Antique and vintage furnishings sourced globally give each room its own distinct character.
KingPetite Chambre
The entry-level room at Columns. Small but not cramped thanks to high ceilings and carefully chosen vintage furnishings. King bed, en-suite with walk-in shower, and the same Le Labo and Parachute linen treatment as every other room in the house.
KingPremier Avenue Suite
The showpiece room. At roughly 900 sq ft with 15-foot ceilings, it's full of original architectural detail — carved mantle, built-in armoire, period wallpaper. Crystal chandelier overhead, dressing table, antique vases, and a clawfoot tub with double porcelain vanity in the bathroom. Open the interior shutters and you're looking straight out over St. Charles Avenue and the private upstairs guest porch. Can be joined with a Double Queen Chambre for even more space.

The hotel sits in the Upper Garden District, an easy base for exploring the historic mansion-lined streets on foot. Magazine Street with its boutiques, restaurants, and coffee shops is within walking distance.
The St. Charles Avenue streetcar stop is a 2-minute walk from the hotel. The line runs directly to the French Quarter, Audubon Park, and other key neighborhoods — the easiest and most atmospheric way to move around the city.
The Columns hosts regular live music events, including jazz. The venue has a pool/billiard room, and the porch and garden patio are common gathering spots for evening performances. Check the Happenings page on the website for current schedule.

An elevator exists but does not meet current ADA standards and is not always in service. Staff are available to assist with luggage transport on the stairs.
