Court Hotel Utrecht City Centre
Historic-meets-contemporary boutique. Judicial history baked into the design — playful room names (Judge's, Jury's, Justice), photo prints of court history, and a restaurant literally called De Rechtbank (The Court). Warm and personal without being stuffy.
Book canal rooms (Judge's, Jury's, Justice, Judy's) directly — check-in is at the main hotel and staff walk you to the wharves, a 2-minute stroll away
Why It Matters
One of the few hotels in the Netherlands housed inside a working former courthouse. Certified Gold Green Key. The canal wharf cellar rooms are genuinely rare — the Nieuwegracht wharves were nominated for UNESCO World Heritage status in 2008. And the restaurant De Rechtbank is a legit local favorite, not just a hotel dining room.
A 4-star boutique hotel inside a fully renovated 19th-century courthouse whose foundations date to 1054. The building still has the monumental facade and ornamental fasces of its judicial past, but step inside and the rooms are sharp, colorful, and contemporary — decorated with historical photo prints of Utrecht and its court. Two minutes' walk away, four canal rooms sit inside wharf cellars on the Nieuwegracht, with private terraces right on the water.
