Why It Matters
One of the most wellness-dense family-run hotels in Bavaria, having grown organically from a farmstead. The new Stemp OASEE — a clothing-optional outdoor wellness zone with a 60m lake, event sauna, snow room, and granite whirlpool — is a genuinely unusual offering. The resort's 100% self-generated energy and leading sustainability credentials further distinguish it.
What started as a Bavarian farm with a cobbler's shop is now a full-scale 4-star-superior wellness resort run by the Stemp family across three generations. Herbert and Christine Stemp have spent decades building and expanding the property on their family plot in the rural hills near Passau — tearing down the original farmhouse in 2017 to make room for 23 new suites and a greatly expanded wellness world. In 2025, they added the OASEE, a textile-free 2,000 m² outdoor wellness landscape with a 60-metre heated natural lake, making the total wellness footprint 7,400 m². The resort runs almost entirely on its own wood-gas energy — two wood gasifier plants generating 100 kW of electricity — and all water surfaces are sustainably heated.
