Book the Bel Etage Suite if you want zoo views from a private terrace — it can link up with Stue Suites for nearly 400 m² of connected space

Why It Matters

One of the only hotels in Europe with a private entrance directly into a major zoo. A heritage-protected building with genuine architectural history — the former Royal Danish Embassy — rather than a pastiche. Patricia Urquiola's interior design is original and tactile rather than generic luxury. The Susanne Kaufmann Spa brings serious Austrian organic wellness credentials to the city. The former Michelin-starred Cinco by Paco Pérez put it on Berlin's culinary map; today's Carte Blanche carries the French brasserie torch with Michelin recognition.

Das Stue is a heritage-listed neoclassical building — the former Royal Danish Embassy, designed in 1938–40 by the same architect behind Berlin's KaDeWe department store — turned into one of the city's most characterful luxury boutique hotels. The name means 'living room' in Danish, and the 78 rooms genuinely feel like that: intimate, design-forward spaces furnished by Patricia Urquiola, with original parquet floors, animal art nodding to the neighboring Berlin Zoo, and one genuinely unique perk: a private entrance from the hotel terrace directly into the Zoo, skipping the queues entirely.

Bel Etage Suite

The largest in the house: 110 m² with 5-meter ceilings and an 80 m² private terrace overlooking the zoo. Fully separate living and sleeping areas, two bathrooms each with rain shower and bathtub, and a suite of inclusions that justify the top-tier rate: complimentary breakfast, free laundry on arrival day, a personalized welcome bar, complimentary minibar, and a personal shopping service in partnership with KaDeWe. Named for the building's diplomatic past, these rooms face the Berlin Zoo or Tiergarten with generously sized windows. Some have a balcony or private terrace — a meaningful upgrade from the Stue Rooms. Floor-to-ceiling windows in many units. Urquiola-designed furniture varies room to room: some have chaise longues, others Hay bedside tables. Bathtubs available in some; Stue Rooms are shower-only.

Stue Room

The entry-level rooms, but they don't feel like it. At 27 m², they're compact — be clear-eyed about that — but the panoramic windows overlooking either the inner courtyard or the Tiergarten park pull in light and greenery that make them feel bigger. Extra-long beds (210 cm), rain shower, and Molton Brown toiletries. Spa access included. Floors 1 through 5.
