De L'Europe Amsterdam
Old-world grand hotel with a local Dutch soul. Formal enough for a state visit, relaxed enough for a family with kids. Art on every surface, Rijksmuseum replica Dutch Masters in every room, and a speakeasy bar hidden inside.

Why It Matters
The first hotel in the Netherlands to be awarded three Michelin Keys. Home to Restaurant Flore, which holds two Michelin stars plus a Green Star for sustainability. Independently owned by HEINEKEN and operating continuously since 1896, making it one of the oldest family-owned luxury hotels in Amsterdam. The 't Huys wing features suites co-designed with local Amsterdam icons including the Van Gogh Museum and Harper's Bazaar.
De L'Europe opened on the Amstel River in 1896 — built on the literal foundations of a medieval city wall tower — and has been Amsterdam's grand hotel of record ever since. Owned by the HEINEKEN company since the 1950s when Alfred 'Freddy' Heineken fell for the place, it carries its history lightly: the 2020 renovation by Dutch studio Nicemakers kept the classical bones while adding COCO-MAT beds, Bose surround sound, and motion-sensing floor lighting. The result is a hotel that feels genuinely timeless rather than museum-like, with five food-and-drink venues, a two-Michelin-star restaurant, and a creative wing called 't Huys where local Amsterdam brands have designed their own suites.
