Deqin Meri Poodom
Contemplative high-altitude retreat. Architecture as spiritual theater — raw stone walls, sharp angles, corridors that frame mountain views like paintings. Modern Orientalism meets Himalayan vernacular. It's stripped back and deliberate, not lavish.
Ask the front desk to call you for the golden peak sunrise — staff proactively wake guests for the 'Sun Shining on the Golden Mountain' event
Why It Matters
Won Grand Prix du Design 18th edition (Boutique Hotel Grand Winner) and longlisted for Dezeen Awards 2025. One of only a handful of hotels in the world sitting at a Himalayan mountain-viewing platform, purpose-built to witness the 'Sun Shining on the Golden Mountain' phenomenon over Meili Snow Mountain. Architecture by BUZZ/ Büro Ziyu Zhuang; interiors by Wu Bin / W.DESIGN.
At 3,600 meters above sea level on the Wunongding Viewing Platform, Deqin Meri Poodom faces the sacred Thirteen Peaks of Meili Snow Mountain straight on. Completed in 2024, the hotel is a serious architectural statement: designed by BUZZ/ Büro Ziyu Zhuang (exterior) and interior designer Wu Bin of W.DESIGN, the 7,300 m² building steps horizontally down the slope in staggered volumes of stone, glass, and concrete, drawing on the textures of Tibetan 'Tnkhar' houses without being literal about it. Rooms have floor heating and diffused oxygen supply — practical necessity at altitude — and the fifth-floor observation deck serves complimentary afternoon tea while the peaks do the talking.
