Why It Matters
One of the very few hotels in the Caucasus region to occupy a genuine 1930s constructivist building, with rooms designed by Alberto Pinto Atelier (Paris) and listed on both Tablet Hotels and Michelin Guide. The history of the building — Soviet-era sports training ground — is preserved in the decor rather than erased by it.
The Dinamo Hotel started life as the Dinamo Sport Society in 1926, training Azerbaijan's Olympic athletes in a striking 1930s constructivist building. Today the training grounds are gone and the Art Deco interiors remain — all stucco moldings, athletic sculptures, and themed artwork that quietly reference the building's sporting past. Rooms were designed by Parisian studio Alberto Pinto Atelier, the pool has a jacuzzi and heated sun loungers, and the terrace looks out over central Baku. It's a boutique property with only around 28 rooms, so it never feels like a convention hotel.
