Domaine de Fontenille
Chic Provençal farmhouse — British-influenced interiors (beige and grey tones, big bathrooms, old-school bathtubs), contemporary art throughout, natural stone and parquet floors, and a deliberately unhurried pace. Designed to feel like a wealthy friend's country house, not a hotel.
Executive rooms with private terrace (terrace dotted with potted geraniums) are worth the upgrade for couples — only a handful exist.
Why It Matters
The founding property of the Fontenille Collection. Holds a Michelin star at Le Champ des Lunes. Member of Relais & Châteaux and Green Key certified. Produces its own certified-organic wines (red, white, rosé) from a vineyard dating to 1638, sold in the on-site cellar and by the glass at dinner. Contemporary art in every room comes from the owners' personal collection and partner galleries.
An 18th-century Provençal bastide with roots going back to 1638, transformed in 2016 into a Relais & Châteaux hotel by Frédéric Biousse and Guillaume Foucher. The place feels genuinely lived-in — think family portraits next to contemporary gallery pieces, solid oak floors, and a working organic vineyard out the window. It sits on 35+ hectares in the Luberon Regional Park, about 4km from Lourmarin and 25 minutes from Aix-en-Provence. Two restaurants, a Michelin star, and a wine cellar stocked with the estate's own certified-organic production.
