Domaine de la Soucherie
Traditional elegance meets working winery. Antique furniture, Toile de Jouy fabrics, and slate-effect bathrooms sit alongside genuinely modern fixtures. Quiet and deliberately TV-free in the B&B. The kind of place where the owners hand you a glass of Coteaux du Layon before you've even unpacked.
Ask for a first-floor room in the Maison des Amis (Chaume or Layon) if you want the vineyard view directly from your bed.
Why It Matters
Winner of the 2020 Bacchus de l'Œnotourisme wine tourism award. Selected by both the Michelin Guide and Tablet Hotels. The estate produces AOC wines including Anjou, Savennières, Coteaux du Layon, and Chaume — and guests get direct access to the cellar, the vines, and the people who make it all happen. Historically owned by the Dukes of Brissac.
A working 28-hectare wine estate on a hillside above the Layon valley, about 20km south of Angers. The Beguinot family run both the vines and the accommodation — four B&B rooms in the old outhouse (La Maison des Amis) and a separate five-bedroom holiday cottage (La Maison des Vignes) with its own heated pool. Every arriving guest gets a tour of the property and a wine tasting, which sets the tone for the whole stay.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Led by Valérie, a passionate guide, across the hillside vineyards above the Layon. Ends in the barrel cellar and wine cellar for a tasting of four 100% Chenin wines. From 4 guests.
Every new arrival in the Maison des Amis B&B is offered a tour of the property and a tasting of the estate's wines. This is the signature welcome — it's what makes the stay feel like a genuine winery experience rather than just a rural B&B.
Drop-in wine tasting of the estate's range, available year-round Monday–Saturday 9am–6pm. During busy summer periods, certain time slots are reserved for guided tours with tastings.
A guided tour of the barrel cellar followed by a tasting of emblematic vintages. Tailored to the knowledge level of the group — novice, enthusiast, or expert. Book online via the estate website.
Cellar tour followed by wine paired with carefully selected seasonal dishes. Designed for friends groups, birthdays, or hen parties. Minimum 8 guests.
Covers soil influence on the vine, winemaking techniques, and the key stages of wine tasting. Price on request, minimum 6 guests. Duration 3 hours.
Full-day or half-day seminar packages for 5–60 people. Meeting rooms (with projector, screen, WiFi, flip chart), panoramic terrace, catering, and optional team-building activities including 'Winemaker for a Day', a 5-senses vineyard trail, and a cooking challenge. Available in English or French.
Bicycle rides on the banks of the Layon or Loire rivers. The estate is on a cycling route and guests at the Maison des Vignes can cool off in the pool after a ride.
Wander through 20 hectares of vines using a downloadable map (also available from the estate office) with 10 signposts placed throughout the vineyard. Passes by beehives and offers views across the Layon valley. Walking shoes recommended — it's hilly. Not suitable for pushchairs.
