Domaine de Murtoli (L'Hôtel de la Ferme)
Rustic-luxe Corsican authenticity. Stone walls, wood beams, blazing fireplaces — but also home automation systems and king beds with 200x200 cm mattresses. The farm genuinely produces the food on your plate: veal, lamb, garden vegetables, olive oil from the mill, ewe's cheese, honey. It feels like you stumbled onto a private country estate, not a hotel.
Book La Table de la Grotte on a Thursday evening for the weekly polyphonic choir performance — it's the most atmospheric dinner on the island.
Why It Matters
One of the genuinely sui generis hotels in Europe. A fully operational organic farm that became one of the most discreet luxury destinations on the continent, with a Kyle Phillips-designed 12-hole links golf course, a Michelin-starred table, a beach restaurant made entirely of driftwood, a cave dining room with polyphonic choirs on Thursdays, and a private coastline used by guests including Beyoncé and Leonardo DiCaprio.
Domaine de Murtoli is a 5-star working farm spread across 2,500 hectares of wild south Corsica — the closest thing the island has to an agriturismo, though the scale here is absurdly grand. The Hotel de la Ferme, opened in 2021, is the central hub: nine rooms and suites grouped around a courtyard of centuries-old olive trees, with a 20-meter stone pool, a bar, and a Michelin-starred restaurant a few steps away. Beyond the hotel, another ~20 restored 17th-century shepherds' houses and landlord mansions dot the estate, some several kilometers apart, each with its own private pool and wrought-iron gate.
