Catherine Deneuve called this 18th-century Directoire manor home for over 30 years. She sold it in 2017, and by 2021 Fontenille Collection had transformed it into a 39-room luxury hotel on 40 hectares straddling the Eure river. The gardens — designed by Jacques Wirtz, the man behind the Tuileries' Jardin du Carrousel — alone justify the trip, with 250+ rose varieties and a permaculture kitchen garden that feeds the kitchens directly. France's first Susanne Kaufmann spa is the other headline draw.

Set under the roof of the Château with dormer windows looking onto the Eure river and the park. At 36 m², it's one of the larger junior suites. Views of both water and gardens from an elevated position.

The semi-free-range farm is home to Highland cows, Ouessant sheep, Nez noir du Valais sheep, white swans, wild ducks, and two donkeys. Deer also roam the meadows. A totally genuine countryside experience that isn't manufactured for tourists.
Guided visits to the Jardin Remarquable — one of France's officially designated remarkable gardens. Designed by Jacques Wirtz over 35 years ago with 250+ rose varieties, century-old boxwoods, and a permaculture kitchen garden. Open to outside visitors by reservation.
Claude Monet's gardens at Giverny are 25 minutes away. The hotel actively promotes combined Primard + Giverny stays and offers a dedicated package.
