Part of the Dong Feng Yun Art Village complex in rural Yunnan, this place stops you in your tracks before you even check in. The buildings — all red brick, all sweeping curves — were conceived by sculptor Luo Xu under the principle of 'austerity, simplicity, and authenticity.' No steel bars. No nails. The result looks like it was kneaded from the earth itself. Inside, 232 rooms keep things relatively calm: warm tones, local Yunnan artisan touches, MGallery's custom bedding, French Inès de la Fressange toiletries. Floor plans get a little wild in the suites, bending to follow the curves of the buildings. The setting is a proper 4A-rated scenic area — vineyards, lavender fields, a lake — and guests move through it all by room-card access and buggy.
