Why It Matters
Named to TIME's World's Greatest Places 2024, Condé Nast Traveller Hot List 2025, and Travel + Leisure It List 2025. Formentera's first certified eco-resort — each accommodation runs on renewable electricity and regenerates its own water. The property also deliberately has no TVs (available on request only), which is a genuine commitment rather than a gimmick.
Dunas de Formentera sits directly on Migjorn beach — Formentera's longest — in low-slung bungalows and duplexes woven between ancient sand dunes and twisted juniper trees. Opened in summer 2024 as the island's first eco-resort, it was conceived by Marugal Hotel Management and designed by Palma-based studio Antonio Obrador: earthy terracotta, sun-bleached wood, natural linen, whitewashed plaster, and panoramic windows that blur the line between room and dune. Forty-five rooms, no televisions unless you ask for one, and an infinity pool that stares straight out at the Mediterranean.

Step up from the Double Formentera with a slightly larger footprint (up to 35 sqm) and a king-size bed. Dune-facing terrace. Same clean palette of sandy beiges and natural linens. Air conditioning, free WiFi.

Double Formentera
The entry-level room, and still very pleasant. Under 30 sqm, so genuinely compact — but the private terrace opens it up and you step straight into the dune landscape. Wood, natural fibres, soft neutral tones. Full bathroom, comfortable double bed. Good if you're mostly here to be outside.

Configured to accommodate families, with extra bed arrangements available. Suitable for infants (under two stay free) and older children — though note there are no dedicated kids' facilities on the property.
Junior Suite Dunas
At 35–40 sqm you get a proper bedroom plus a separate living area — enough room to actually stretch out. Terrace surrounded by native vegetation (juniper, pine). Neutral dune palette throughout. A good middle ground if you want space without going full suite.

Same generous footprint as the Junior Suite Dunas but oriented toward the sea rather than the dunes. Upper-level positioning frames the turquoise gradient of the Mediterranean from the terrace. Otherwise the same understated, nature-driven interior.

At 34–44 sqm, the Panoramic is smaller than the full suites but compensates with arguably the best views in the house — a terrace that opens onto an unobstructed 180-degree sweep of the Mediterranean. Bedroom, living area, full bathroom. The name is accurate.

Sea Houses
Independent houses sitting directly among the dunes, each with 3–8 rooms. Can be reserved entirely for exclusive use — ideal for groups, families, or anyone who wants full privacy while still having access to all hotel services. Outdoor terraces, direct beach proximity, and complete seclusion from the main hotel. Must be booked directly with the hotel.
Suite Dunas
Fifty to sixty square metres of calm. Separate bedroom, separate living room, and a spacious ground-floor terrace with an outdoor daybed — perfect for afternoon naps in the shade of the dunes. Ground-floor position means direct dune access rather than elevated sea panoramas.

The same 50–60 sqm footprint as the Suite Dunas but elevated for sea views. Separate bedroom, separate living room, and a private terrace with an outdoor bed where sea meets sky. This is the one worth splurging on — the views are the whole point.

Direct access to Migjorn, Formentera's longest beach. A short boardwalk through the dunes leads to the sand — genuinely one of the most unspoiled beaches in the Balearics, with crystalline water maintained by the surrounding Posidonia seagrass meadows (UNESCO World Heritage).
Complimentary bicycle hire for guests to explore Migjorn beach and the wider island. Formentera is small and flat enough to be genuinely cycleable — the road to El Pilar de la Mola is the exception, but the coastal paths are easy.
Charter boats can be arranged to explore Formentera's coastline and coves by sea. Concierge can assist with bookings.
Private yoga sessions and personal training arranged on request. Sessions adapt to the guest's rhythm and can be conducted outdoors in the dune landscape.
Formentera was designated a Starlight Tourist Destination in 2023 due to its exceptionally low light pollution. The hotel's saltwater infinity pool is reportedly one of the better spots to float and watch the sky after dark.
SUP, scuba diving, kayaking, and canoeing are all available in the surrounding area of Es Migjorn. The hotel can assist with arrangements through concierge.
