Eagles Nest
Ultra-contemporary, eclectic international design blended into native subtropical bush. Think copper aerofoil rooflines, three-metre floor-to-ceiling glass walls, brushed-metal finishes, and commissioned NZ artwork — not a thatch roof or colonial heritage beam in sight.
Book the private chef at least 24 hours in advance — they prepare bespoke menus featuring local crayfish, venison, and hapuka
Why It Matters
Holds a 2025 Michelin Key, Qualmark 5-Star Gold Sustainable Tourism Award, and Virtuoso membership. Widely regarded as one of New Zealand's most exclusive properties. The flagship Rahimoana villa features a 600 sqm footprint with 300-degree bay views, a 25-metre lap pool, private beach, and a Porsche Cayenne included in the rate. Wikipedia notes it has historically been the most expensive rental accommodation in New Zealand.
Five architecturally distinct luxury villas perched on a 75-acre private ridgeline above the Bay of Islands. Each villa is a self-contained world — private chef, private pool, original NZ artwork, and views that stretch across more than 140 islands. There's no shared lobby, no communal dining room, no other guests in sight. Just you, a Porsche Cayenne in the driveway, and some of the most dramatic coastal scenery in the Southern Hemisphere.

On Property
How you'll actually spend your days.
Eagles Nest concierge arranges a full range of water activities across the Bay of Islands: sailing, powerboating, kayaking, game fishing, paddleboarding, snorkelling, and scuba diving. The Poor Knights Islands — a favourite of Jacques Cousteau — are a short boat trip away.
A croquet lawn is available on-site for guests.
All villas have access to Eagles Nest's private sandy bays. Rahimoana has its own dedicated beach.
Staff can arrange transport (by car or helicopter) to nearby world-class courses including Kauri Cliffs, Waitangi Golf Club, Te Arai Links, and Tara Iti.
The property's 75 acres are managed as predator-free kiwi habitat. Guided walks with a local expert take place around the property at dusk, when kiwi are active. Their calls can be heard across the grounds from dusk until dawn.
Helicopter flights depart directly from the Eagles Nest property. Destinations include Cape Reinga and 90 Mile Beach, Waipoua Forest, and the Kauri Cliffs golf course. Scenic flights over the Bay of Islands are also available.
Clifftop strolls and more challenging hikes are available on the property and the surrounding peninsula. Eagles Nest also facilitates longer excursions to Cape Reinga, the Waipoua Forest, and the Rainbow Warrior Memorial Walk at Matauri Bay.
The ridgeline location has minimal light pollution. The open sky views from infinity pool decks make for excellent stargazing on clear nights.
Staff can arrange visits to local Far North vineyards. The warm, dry summers produce full-bodied wines, and several vineyards offer food and wine pairing experiences.
Yoga teachers come to the villa. Sessions can be held on private decks overlooking the Bay.
