Eco by StrandNara
Scandinavian country eco-house. Light blue-grey tones, natural materials, no fuss. Full of warmth and personal touches — old photographs, hand-written excursion notes, organic products at reception. Feels more like a well-loved private home than a hotel.
Book your dinner table separately when you book the room — they are not linked and the restaurant fills up fast
Why It Matters
KRAV-certified (Sweden's highest organic certification) since 2009, with at least 95% organic sourcing across food and linens. Listed in both the Michelin Guide and Sweden's White Guide. One of the very few properties on Öland to operate its own micro-farm, feeding directly into the restaurant and breakfast. Tablet Hotels-endorsed boutique.
A 1926 summer residence turned organic, KRAV-certified boutique B&B on the Baltic island of Öland, 200 meters from the Kalmar Strait. Owners Erica and Mikael Anerhaf spent 17 years building it into one of Sweden's best small eco-hotels — 16 rooms split between the white-and-grey main villa and a row of garden cottages, all decorated in clean Scandinavian country style. The breakfast alone is worth the trip. Note: sold in early 2025 and rebranded as Naya Retreat & Hotell by the Carlsson family.

On Property
How you'll actually spend your days.
A BBQ area in the property's garden, available for guest use.
Öland's island-long coastal bike and hiking trail passes directly outside the property gate, running along the sea and through the UNESCO World Heritage Alvaret area. Bikes available to rent on-site.
For groups, the property can arrange horse-and-cart guided tours of the Alvaret, chocolate/schnapps/herb tastings, Herb Garden walks, grilling masterclasses with local spices, and Öland horse riding. Full conference packages with food and accommodation available on request.
A summer nature experience programme for children, running during the main summer season. Focused on discovering local wildlife and nature.
An evening guided activity searching for bats, moths, and other nocturnal animals in the surroundings. Runs several times between May and August. Tours primarily in Swedish but most guides can accommodate English speakers — call ahead to confirm.
In May, when orchids flower and migratory birds arrive on Öland, the property organises guided orchid and birdwatching tours. In summer, butterfly walks and Alvar hike guides are available. Station Linnaeus nearby offers 2km, 3km and 6.5km marked trails.
Haga Park beach, a short walk along the coast, is an EU Blue Flag beach and home to Öland Windsurfing Club (Sweden's largest, ~300 members). Equipment rental and beginner courses available at the centre. The flat island geography means reliable wind arrives around 1pm. The property can arrange combined lodging and surfing course packages.
