Emeline
Lowcountry eccentricity with genuine warmth. The lobby reads like an eccentric emporium — taxidermic birds, found objects, feathers from regional wildlife — while the rooms are polished and moody. It's social and lively without being loud about it.
Ask about The Den — the speakeasy-style bar tucked behind Frannie & The Fox (open Tue–Sun), easily missed if you don't know to look
Why It Matters
Holds an AAA Four Diamond Award, is on the Condé Nast Traveler 2026 Readers' Choice ballot, and pulls off the rare trick of being a true independent boutique in the middle of a major historic tourist zone. No major hotel loyalty points here, but it's part of Capital One's Premier Collection, Chase The Edit, and Amex Hotel Collection for card-based perks.
Emeline is a 212-room boutique hotel at Church and Market in the heart of Charleston's historic district — the same spot that spent decades as a forgettable chain hotel (formerly a DoubleTree). The transformation is total. Rooms come in rich emerald and gold, Crosley turntables spin vinyl in suites, and a central courtyard strings lights over greenery and a greenhouse. The building's bones go back to the 1850s, when it was a mercantile block across from the open-air City Market. It's been a bank, a provisions store, and a hotel since. Emeline opened in July 2020 and has been one of Charleston's most talked-about properties ever since.

A luxury boutique in the hotel lobby selling locally sourced artisan goods — lapel pins crafted from indigenous bird plumage (by Brackish), confections, and Lowcountry curios. Genuinely worth browsing.
A curated collection of art, books, and imagery celebrating the Charleston Renaissance (1920 through WWII). Displayed throughout the hotel with occasional artifacts claimed to have belonged to the fictional muse 'Emeline' herself.
Every suite comes with a Crosley turntable and a curated vinyl selection compiled by The Record Shop's Mike Gomez. The hotel's vinyl collection is large and growing — guests can also access the broader library.
Pick up a Wellness Passport at the front desk for complimentary access to Charleston's best fitness studios: F45, Peach Lab, Jane DO, and Bodyrok. All are happy to host Emeline guests.
