Eriro
Alpine minimalism meets slow-living philosophy. Everything — the spruce timber, the larch roof shingles, the handmade lamps — comes from within a tight radius of the property. Think natural clay corridors, wool hammocks, vinyl records, and dinner served on smooth river pebbles. The vibe is restorative rather than indulgent.
Book before 16:30 arrival to catch the last cable car up — once the gondola closes, you're truly cut off from the valley
Why It Matters
The only hotel in the Ehrwald area accessible exclusively by cable car. Nine suites built from the owners' own forest timber. Named in Time Magazine's World's Greatest Places 2025. Zero televisions, zero key cards, zero menus — chef Alexander Thoss cooks whatever he foraged that morning over an open fuir fire. The whole place can be hired exclusively.
Eriro is nine suites on a mountain meadow at 1,550 meters, reachable only by gondola — no road, no taxi, no walk-in. This former 1930s inn, reimagined by three Ehrwald families, runs fully all-inclusive and screen-free: bathtubs hollowed from single tree trunks, no TVs, no key cards, just a stone left outside your door. Named one of Time Magazine's World's Greatest Places 2025, it's the highest hotel in the area and operates with an almost obsessive commitment to local sourcing, zero waste, and silence.

On Property
How you'll actually spend your days.
Stargazing organized with local partners, aided by the near-total absence of light pollution at 1,550m. Swarovski telescopes are also provided in-suite.
Swarovski Optik binoculars provided for wildlife spotting in the surrounding Wetterstein massif. Guides available for dedicated wildlife-watching sessions.
Tanya, eriro's holistic therapist, runs movement sessions in the activity room adjacent to the pottery studio. Classes vary by her mood and energy level — expect stretching, sprinting, partner work, and a gong session. Unconventional and genuinely memorable.
Chef Alexander Thoss foraged pine needles, mountain fungi, and wild herbs feature regularly on the daily menu. Guests can join foraging trips in the surrounding forest.
Three in-house guides lead walks through the alpine meadows and forests surrounding the property at 1,550m. Barefoot hiking on the meadow grass is a signature offering. Routes include lakeside walks to the Seebensee and Almsee.
Guided meditation sessions at the Seebensee lake, a short hike from the property. The lake reflects the Zugspitze limestone wall on calm mornings.
Premium brand mountain bikes available for guests in summer. Guided routes through the alpine terrain can be arranged with in-house guides.
Guests in certain suites can request an outdoor bed set up on the balcony for sleeping under the stars, with cowbells audible across the valley on still nights.
Traditional pottery in eriro's on-site creative workshop, one of several craft and Tyrolean culture experiences run by the hotel and local partners.
The Ehrwalder Alm ski zone is directly accessible from the hotel. Ski pass is included in the all-in rate. Guests can be first on untouched runs before the first gondola of the day opens to the public. Snowshoes and avalanche transceivers also included.
In-house guides offer yodeling sessions as part of the cultural experience program — more participatory than performative, and genuinely rooted in local tradition.
