Why It Matters
The only place you can sleep inside the Esperit Roca complex, steps from a Michelin-starred restaurant serving 'greatest hits' reinterpretations of El Celler de Can Roca dishes. Given that El Celler has a waiting list of over 100,000 people, this is one of the more accessible ways into the Roca brothers' world — and the property has a wine cellar, distillery, and exhibition space that aren't available to anyone just passing through.
Hotel Esperit Roca is the 15-room boutique hotel inside the Esperit Roca complex — a restored 19th-century military fortress perched on top of Sants Metges mountain, about 20 minutes north of Girona city. It opened in 2024 as the latest project from Joan, Josep, and Jordi Roca, the trio behind El Celler de Can Roca, which has twice topped The World's 50 Best Restaurants list. The hotel is part of a broader campus that includes a Michelin-starred restaurant, a traditional Catalan dining room, an 80,000-bottle wine cellar, a distillery, and an exhibition space dedicated to El Celler's creative journey.

The Esperit Roca Distillery — the project that gave the whole complex its name — is an R&D spirits lab where the Roca brothers explore 'liquid cuisine.' Open to visitors, with a shop selling products from Rocambolesc gelateria, Casa Cacao chocolaterie, and Roca Recicle homeware made from recycled bottles.
The 80,000-bottle wine cellar curated by Josep Roca sits inside the ancient turret at the heart of the castle. Guests dining at Restaurant Esperit Roca pass through it to reach the dining rooms. An extraordinary domed space with a single oculus and one of the most impressive private wine collections in Catalonia.
