Back Kabini
Tribal-inspired eco-luxury safari lodge — thatched roofs, ethnic furnishings, open-to-sky courtyards, and an earnest 'Spirit of the Land' philosophy that keeps the focus on the forest and its people.

Why It Matters
One of India's most awarded wildlife resorts, combining genuine tribal cultural immersion (village visits, dance performances, naturalist storytelling) with serious luxury credentials — private-pool villas up to 3,100 sq ft, top-tier Ayurvedic spa, and direct access to Nagarhole, which supports one of Asia's highest densities of large herbivores alongside tigers, leopards, and elephants.
Evolve Back Kabini sits right where the Kabini River bends around two sides of the property, deep in Karnataka's jungle corridor between Nagarhole and Bandipur National Parks. Every hut is thatched, every detail references the Kadu Kuruba tribe whose ancestral villages (called Hadis) inspired the entire design. But this is not roughing it: private plunge pools, four-poster beds, and a proper Ayurvedic spa ensure the luxury credentials are firmly in place.

How you'll actually spend your days.
A curated early-morning experience on a specially designed birding boat, departing from the resort's private jetty. Led by expert guides, it targets the Kabini River's rich waterbird and forest-edge species. Especially good for photographers.
Unique to Kabini: the Kabini River forms the boundary between Nagarhole and Bandipur National Parks, meaning this boat safari lets you scan the riverbanks of both parks simultaneously. Mugger crocodiles are commonly spotted; so are smooth-coated otters and a huge variety of birds. Charged separately; arrange through resort.
A specially redesigned wildlife-viewing vehicle takes you into Nagarhole National Park. The 4-hour jeep safari goes deep into the forest on bumpy tracks — leopards, tigers, elephants, gaur, and sambar all live here. Not recommended for children under 5. Charged separately from accommodation; must be arranged through the resort after booking.
A slow, old-fashioned bullock cart ride along the shores of the Kabini River. Popular with families and children. Pleasantly low-tech.
A naturalist-guided visit by jeep to a live Jenu Kuruba tribal settlement near the resort. Guests hear stories, observe the community's unique lifestyle, and share a cup of Jaggery Kaapi (coffee with ginger and pepper) with residents. Genuinely immersive — not a staged 'cultural show'.
A ride in a traditional round-shaped coracle boat, a design indigenous to South Indian rivers. Gets you low on the water and close to the river's edge. Only possible when water levels allow.
Informal storytelling sessions where resort naturalists share real experiences from the wild. Casual and social, held around the resort.
Live cultural dance performance by members of the Kuruba tribe, held on alternate evenings. Performers play wooden drums and wind instruments. A genuine community engagement rather than a resort-staged show.
A naturalist-led walk along the banks of the Kabini River and through adjacent agricultural fields and village roads. Good for birding, flora spotting, and understanding the local landscape.
An after-dark walk led by a resort naturalist to explore the nocturnal world of insects, amphibians, and reptiles in and around the property. Armed only with flashlights, this is surprisingly revelatory for those curious about what comes alive after sunset.
