Cappadocia
Ancient-cave-meets-considered-luxury. Raw stone walls and original frescoes sit alongside goose-down bedding and copper basins. Slow, atmospheric, and romantic — not a slick resort.
The heated infinity pool is open even in winter — booking in the colder months gives you snow-dusted fairy chimney views at a lower price
Why It Matters
The project started in 2012 as a painstaking restoration of an entire neighborhood — 142 houses tied together by stone staircases and arches. Fully completed in 2018, it claims the title of Cappadocia's largest boutique hotel while still feeling intimate. The underground Mahzen wine cellar, the glass-wrapped Fresko terrace with views across the valleys, and a restored chapel that hosts events are all genuinely unusual.
Built from 142 stone houses and 3 mansions connected by arches and carved staircases, the Exedra is self-described as the largest boutique hotel in Cappadocia at 86 rooms. It sits just off the main square of Ortahisar — a quieter, less-touristed town than Göreme — with the town's volcanic rock fortress looming nearby. The hotel's interior keeps the original fireplaces, buried wine press, fermentation vats, and centuries-old stone alcoves intact, then layers in Turkish marble bathrooms with underfloor heating, rain showers, and custom Lokum Istanbul toiletries.

On Property
How you'll actually spend your days.
The restored historic chapel on the lower level of the property hosts weddings, concerts, birthdays, and workshops. 115 m², capacity of 80 guests, high-vaulted stone ceilings.
On-site gym available to guests throughout their stay.
Outdoor infinity pool with views of Mount Erciyes and the fairy chimney landscape. Heated so it runs year-round — winter stays get the rare combination of snow-dusted rock formations and warm water. Sun loungers around the pool.
A second indoor pool for guests — useful in colder months or for those who prefer a more sheltered swim.
The hotel is steps from Göreme National Park and well-positioned for hiking through the local valleys. Ortahisar Castle is within walking distance. The concierge can assist with route planning.
Concierge-arranged horseback rides through the valleys around Ortahisar.
Not operated by the hotel but arranged through the concierge. Cappadocia balloon flights typically launch at dawn for about an hour over the valleys and fairy chimneys. Book as early as possible — flights sell out, especially in spring and autumn.
A traditional Sufi Sema ceremony arranged through the concierge. A genuine cultural ritual, not a tourist performance — the hotel's location near Ortahisar makes attending easier than from Göreme.
Private tastings in the hotel's underground wine cellar. Surrounded by barrels and stone walls, with wines from the hotel's own winery. Can be arranged for couples or small groups.
