Salvador
Historic luxury with Brazilian soul. Refined and understated rather than flashy. The Art Deco shell gives it real architectural weight, while Weinfeld's interiors keep things warm and contemporary. This is the kind of hotel that knows it doesn't need to try too hard.
Ask for an ocean-view room from the start — the street-facing rooms are fine, but the bay views are what you're here for
Why It Matters
The first Fasano property in a protected historic building — listed by IPAC as Cultural Heritage of Bahia. Caetano Veloso performed at the opening. The building itself is the story: a restored newspaper headquarters with original Carrara marble and Alpe Green granite in the lobby, now one of the most significant luxury addresses in northeast Brazil.
Fasano Salvador is a 70-room luxury hotel inside a restored 1930s Art Deco landmark that once housed Salvador's daily newspaper, A Tarde, for 45 years. It sits on Castro Alves Square in the UNESCO-listed historic center, looking out over the Bay of All Saints — and that view is genuinely hard to beat. The interior is the work of Isay Weinfeld, Fasano's go-to architect: Art Deco bones up front in the lobby, sleeker and more modern as you move into the rooms, restaurant, and spa. Blue runs through the whole place — handmade ceramics, carpets, fabrics — nodding to Bahia without being heavy-handed about it.
