Why It Matters
One of the only true design hotels on this stretch of Lake Como, and one of even fewer with a private beach. Built from a former wire factory site, the property took five years to complete due to strict landscape-protection regulations. Restaurant Filo was featured in Italy's most prominent dining guide immediately after opening. The hotel also pioneered electric boat charging stations on the lake.
Filario is one of the few modern hotels on Lake Como — and one of the very few with a private beach. Built on the site of a former iron wire factory, this Design Hotels member opened in 2015 with 13 lakefront rooms, 22 residences, a fine-dining restaurant, and a seasonal beach bar. The name itself is a tribute: 'filo' nods to Como's silk-weaving heritage, 'Lario' is the lake's Roman name. Designed by Alessandro Agrati (founder of Culti Milano), the interiors lean into warm Lombardy stone, locally crafted timber from Cantù, and Frette linens — calm, material-led, and genuinely beautiful.
