Why It Matters
One of the very few hotels in France where a three-Michelin-star restaurant (held since 2012) is literally on-site. Emmanuel Renaut also holds the Meilleur Ouvrier de France title. The wine cellar houses nearly 1,200 labels including pre-1900 Chartreuses. With just 10 rooms, exclusivity is genuine rather than marketed.
Flocons de Sel sits at the top of the Route du Leutaz on the Rochebrune massif, about 1,300m above Megève. It is the personal project of chef Emmanuel Renaut — Meilleur Ouvrier de France and three-Michelin-star holder — and his wife Kristine, who run this 5-star Relais & Châteaux with just 10 rooms, suites, and mazots. Think pale wood from floor to ceiling, untreated stone, animal-hide rugs, Arpin mill wool throws, and occasionally a wood-burning stove crackling in the corner. The three-Michelin-star restaurant is the main event, but the mountain spa, valley views, and refreshingly personal hospitality make this a destination in its own right.
