Why It Matters
A 30-million-euro transformation of an abandoned 1912 Austrian tuberculosis sanatorium, reopened in 2020 by hosts Stefan Hinteregger and Teresa Unterthiner. Holds two Michelin Keys. Home to YERA, a subterranean forest restaurant at €650 per person with no menu choice and a strict no-phones policy. The only hotel in the area with true ski-in/ski-out access on the Plose slopes, plus CO₂-neutral architecture for every tree felled during construction, two were planted.
Perched at 1,800 metres on the sun-drenched southern slope of Mount Plose, FORESTIS is an adults-only mountain sanctuary built from stone, glass, and wood. Three contemporary towers — their facades resembling tree bark — rise above a restored 1912 historic pavilion, and every suite faces south with floor-to-ceiling views of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site. The philosophy here is rooted in Celtic healing traditions and four natural elements: pure spring water, mountain air, sunshine, and climate.

A separately bookable 1912 Alpine Art Nouveau villa on the property — exclusive use only, for up to 10 guests, minimum 2 nights. Two floors, 200 m², and nothing else like it in the hotel. The lower level has a bedroom, open fireplace, bar, dining table, full living area, and a guest toilet. The bathroom features a bathtub, rain shower, and bidet. Upstairs is where it gets spectacular: a private rooftop pool (heated, with Dolomites views), a spruce wood sauna, and sun loungers. This is the one for anniversaries, proposals, or whenever only the best will do.
