Megève
Modern Alpine chic — dark wood, warm tones, faux fur, and floor-to-ceiling mountain views. Intimate scale (55 rooms) keeps it feeling like a private chalet rather than a large hotel. Quieter and more rarefied than Courchevel or Val-d'Isère.
Book the Suite Idéal experience (perched at 1,850m, cable-car access) — it must be combined with a minimum two-night stay at the resort, so plan ahead.
Why It Matters
The only resort directly on the Mont d'Arbois slopes with ski-in/ski-out access. Inspired by the Edmond de Rothschild family legacy that put Megève on the map. Houses one of the largest spas in the French Alps at 900 square metres, and Brasserie Benjamin has been recognised by Gault&Millau as a 'Remarkable Table'.
Sitting at 1,300 metres on the slopes of Mont d'Arbois, Four Seasons Resort Megève is the only property in the area with true ski-in, ski-out access to the pistes. Built in the spirit of the Edmond de Rothschild family — who essentially invented Megève as a refined alternative to busier Alpine resorts — the modern chalet blends French Alpine elegance with contemporary design across 55 rooms and suites. In winter you step straight onto 445 kilometres of runs; in summer it pivots smoothly to golf, hiking, and mountain adventures.

How you'll actually spend your days.
An overnight stay in the Suite Idéal at 1,850 metres — the highest accommodation in Megève, accessible by cable car. First access to fresh morning snow, views of Mont Blanc and the Aravis ranges, a tailored dinner prepared by the chef, and stargazing via telescope. Must be combined with a minimum two-night resort stay.
The resort sits amid more than 30 km of groomed cross-country trails. Ski concierge can arrange equipment and guides for self-guided or accompanied tours.
A dog sledding expedition led by a professional musher with the resort's resident sled-dog pack. A genuinely memorable winter activity, especially for families.
Electric snowmobiles through fresh snow along the pine tree forest at the foot of the resort. A quieter, eco-friendlier alternative to traditional snowmobiles.
Ski-in, ski-out access direct from the resort onto Megève's 136 groomed runs totalling 445 km. The in-house Ski Concierge (unique to this resort in Megève) waxes and tunes equipment and the Ski Valet transports it to the lifts. Lessons available through partner Ecole Ski Francais.
Pastry classes with Executive Pastry Chef Jonathan Chapuy and sushi-making classes with the Kaito chef. Available year-round for adults and children.
Intimate wine initiation with the head sommelier in the resort's two-level wine cellar, which holds over 15,000 bottles from France and around the world. Private dinner experiences also bookable.
Outdoor stargazing evenings in front of the resort with a qualified astronomer. Includes a gourmet dinner before the celestial exploration.
Direct access from the resort to France's oldest mountain golf course — 18 holes designed in 1964 by three-time British Open champion Sir Henry Cotton. Set at 1,320 metres (4,330 feet) with Alpine views. Open May to November.
Trails connecting nearby towns including Sallanches, Combloux, Flumet and Praz-sur-Arly with Mont Blanc views throughout. Electric fat bikes also available for snow-season riding.
A range of hiking routes from gentle trails around the resort to more vigorous ascents towards Mont Joly. Private guides available through the concierge for customised mountain adventures.
A gastronomic mountain-top picnic arranged by the resort's team with locally sourced food and rosé. Set up in an idyllic alpine scene — by the lake or on top of the mountain.
Yoga sessions in a unique ecological geodesic dome near the resort with mountain views. Also available poolside in winter. Private sessions with instructors can be arranged; pop-up partnerships have featured Geneva wellness studio Sol Studio.
A snowshoeing excursion through pine forest to a candlelit snow fort adorned with cosy blankets. Traditional Savoyard aperitif served inside. A fairy-tale winter evening.
Take in the Alps from above via hot air balloon, helicopter, airplane, or for the more adventurous, paragliding or hang-gliding with an expert instructor. Flight over Mont Blanc in a glass airplane is a particularly dramatic option.
