G-Rough
Italian midcentury design museum meets lived-in Roman apartment. Raw textures, brass finishes, exposed beams, and Seletti-tiled bathrooms sit alongside proper Gio Ponti chairs and Murano glass chandeliers. Theatrical without being stuffy. Art gallery with rooms above it.
Ask for a courtyard-facing suite if you're a light sleeper — the piazza rooms have character but also foot traffic noise well into midnight
Why It Matters
Member of both Design Hotels and Marriott Bonvoy. One of the few small Roman properties where every suite is individually curated to honor a specific Italian designer from the 1930s–1950s. The Gallery Bar hosts rotating art exhibitions and is genuinely part of the local Rome arts scene, not just a hotel bar.
G-Rough is a 15-suite boutique squeezed into a 17th-century Roman palazzo a side street off Piazza Navona. The concept is straightforward and executed brilliantly: original Roman architecture — patina walls, wooden beamed ceilings, mosaic floors — furnished with Italian midcentury design classics by Ico Parisi, Gio Ponti, Venini, and Seguso. There is no lobby. You walk through the Gallery Bar, get handed a prosecco, and that is check-in. Founded by Gabriele Salini, a 7th-generation Roman with a deep network of private access across the city, the hotel pitches itself less as a place to sleep and more as a pied-à-terre for actually living Rome.

How you'll actually spend your days.
A guided walk through the narrow alleys behind the Spanish Steps and Piazza Navona, visiting small artisan workshops and bottegas preserving generations-old craft traditions. Includes hatmakers, lithographers, silk goods, and fine jewelry.
Private round-trip transfer and guided visit to the studios of Rome's working artists, led by the artists themselves. The opportunity to see work in progress and purchase pieces directly from the source.
A deep-dive into 17th-century Rome's great architectural rivalry, tracing the competing visions of Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Francesco Borromini through the city's churches and public spaces.
Guided tour of Villa Farnesina (with Raphael's frescoes) and Palazzo Corsini (former residence of Queen Christina of Sweden), both in Trastevere. The Corsini collection includes works by Caravaggio, Guido Reni, and Rubens.
Rotating contemporary art exhibitions displayed in the Gallery Bar, open to guests and the public. Regular evening events dedicated to art and music. Recent exhibitions have included Charlie Masson's 'The Muses' and Sara Kontar's 'My Roots Hurting'.
A 3-hour (or 4-hour with St. Peter's Basilica) exclusive tour of Vatican spaces typically closed to the public, including the Pio Clementino Museum, Gallery of Geographical Maps, Raphael's Rooms, the Sistine Chapel, and exclusive access to the Bramante Staircase — a Renaissance spiral staircase closed to general visitors.
Exclusive visit to the Colonna family palace — one of Rome's most powerful noble families — where the prince personally welcomes guests. Includes a tour of art collections featuring Ghirlandaio, Tintoretto, Guercino, and Reni, plus the Italian-style gardens.
Starts at the Spanish Steps, visits a private convent with anamorphic frescoes and an astrolabe solar clock, then moves to a privately-owned 16th-century palace formerly home to young Emperor Bonaparte and his mother. Ends with an intimate aperitivo. Opportunity to meet the Princess who currently owns the residence.
After-hours exclusive private visit to the Borghese Gallery for just your group. The gallery holds masterpieces by Bernini, Titian, and Caravaggio. The evening light and absence of daytime crowds makes this an unusually intimate encounter with the collection.
