Why It Matters

1 MICHELIN Key in both 2024 and 2025. One of only a handful of hotels in the world sitting directly beside a UNESCO World Heritage site. All 25 rooms have balconies. Interior design by Yukio Hashimoto. The only Garrya property in Japan.

25 rooms beside the walls of Nijo Castle — the UNESCO World Heritage Site where the Tokugawa shogunate ended and modern Japan began. Opened by Banyan Tree Group in 2020, the building's architecture takes cues from a flying geese formation, with interiors by world-renowned designer Yukio Hashimoto. The lobby garden greets you first: trees reflected in still water, the line between inside and out quietly dissolved. Everything here is calibrated toward stillness — natural materials, calm tones, and a scale small enough that the staff actually know who you are.
