Guided hikes into the surrounding canyons and high desert Ponderosa Pine forests. Minimum age restrictions apply for some tours — check with the concierge. Self-guided hiking also available on resort trails.

Ride through the canyon landscapes the way ranching families of the 1800s did. The equestrian program at Palisade Ranch is regularly cited as one of the strongest of any hotel anywhere. Multiple trail options available.
Technical trail riding in the surrounding terrain over the Uncompahgre Plateau and surrounding mesa. The area is less trafficked than nearby Moab but offers similarly spectacular scenery.
Gateway Canyons serves as a launch pad for Canyonlands (2.5 hours), Arches (2.5 hours), Mesa Verde (3.5 hours), and Four Corners Monument (3.5 hours). The concierge can assist with planning.
Drive through the scenic red rock backcountry in UTVs or jeeps. The resort also offers a professional off-road experience on a two-mile track in a customized Pro-Baja truck driven by a professional driver — a signature Discovery-channel-style thrill. Adventure Center open daily 9am–5pm.
