Why It Matters
The only resort of any quality on Sint Eustatius — literally the largest hospitality development in the island's history. Holds 1 Michelin Key and a PADI 5-Star Resort designation. National Geographic named Statia's diving the best in the Caribbean in 2022. The on-site lagoon is the only ocean-fed, cliff-edge dive training lagoon in the Caribbean.
Golden Rock opened in late 2021 as the only upscale resort on Sint Eustatius — a tiny Dutch Caribbean island that most travelers can't find on a map, let alone reach. It sits at the base of the Quill, a dormant volcano-turned-national-park, across 40 acres of tropical gardens the owner-botanist has populated with over 130,000 trees and plants. The result is a genuinely wild resort: hummingbirds at breakfast, underwater lava flows on the dive agenda, and a man-made ocean-fed saltwater lagoon on the property. Getting here requires some effort — a small prop plane from St. Maarten, then a long unpaved road to the gate — and that's exactly the point.

On Property
How you'll actually spend your days.
A notably challenging 17-hole mini golf course on the resort grounds — guests in reviews mention laughing the whole way through. Oceanfront setting.
Guided wine tasting hosted by the in-house sommelier, featuring wines from international vineyards.
Guided deep sea fishing excursions arranged through the resort.
On-site PADI 5-Star dive center with access to 30+ dive sites around the island, including over 300 historic shipwrecks in Oranje Bay. Dive boats Patricia and Stormy are moored 15 minutes away (transfer provided). All PADI courses available. ScubaPro gear for rental. Dedicated camera room for underwater photography. Gear rinsed and stored daily. Note: guests are transferred to the port (15–20 minute drive) to board boats, per local regulations.
Available from the boat (for groups of 6+, based on availability and weather) and in the on-site ocean-fed lagoon. 17th-century sea walls and cannons are snorkeable just below the surface in Oranje Bay.
Visit the working greenhouse that supplies the resort's restaurants with fresh, locally grown ingredients.
The Quill is a dormant volcano turned national park, visible from virtually every corner of the resort. Guided hikes ascend the crater rim into dense rainforest with mango trees, orchids, and butterfly species. One of the most memorable things to do on the island.
Guided tours of St. Eustatius including Fort Oranje, the historical upper town, and the 17th-century Dutch Colonial sites. The island was the site of the first international salute to the American flag in 1776.
State-of-the-art padel and pickleball courts set against the Quill volcano backdrop. Open to all skill levels.
Tennis courts available for guests.
Guided painting session with drinks, held in the resort gardens.
The resort's own electric tram runs all day around the 40-acre grounds — useful given the size of the property and the long marble garden paths between facilities.
Personalized yoga and Pilates sessions available on the resort grounds, set against the volcanic landscape.
