Gourmet- und Boutiquehotel, Restaurant Tanzer
Alpine minimalist meets serious gourmet. Warm without being folksy. No lederhosen on the walls. Think calm, natural materials, well-edited spaces, and a family that actually knows your name by day two.
Non-guests can dine at the restaurant — book ahead and note it's closed Monday and Tuesday
Why It Matters
One of the few small-scale Alpine properties where the restaurant is genuinely the draw — 14 Gault Millau points, Michelin Guide-selected, open to walk-in non-guests. It achieved one of South Tyrol's highest sustainability certifications in April 2025. The Baumgartner Rieder family has run it for generations and completely renovated in 2015.
South Tyrol is one of Europe's great culinary-wellness crossroads, and Hotel Tanzer is a textbook example of how to do it right at small scale. Run by the Baumgartner Rieder family in the quiet village of Issing/Pfalzen at around 1,000m altitude, this is a genuinely tiny place — a handful of rooms and suites — where the food is the main event. The restaurant holds 14 Gault Millau points and a Michelin Guide selection; chef Marco Dalla Giovanna drives seasonal, creative cooking while son-in-law Michael manages an in-house wine cellar called Pro Vino. The exterior is all weathered Alpine wood, clean lines, no kitsch — and the interior continues that minimalist-warm aesthetic with knotty pine and natural light.
