Grand Hôtel Serre Chevalier
Contemporary alpine minimalism. Dark wood, raw stone, clean lines. The 2016 renovation by Olivier Frémont stripped out the dated mountain-lodge clichés and replaced them with something cooler and quieter. But the fireplace and the après-ski buzz are still here.

Why It Matters
The founding hotel of Serre Chevalier ski resort (est. 1947), sitting front-row opposite the main gondola in Chantemerle. The only ski-front hotel in the village with a full Nuxe Spa partnership, plus dining co-created with Michelin-starred Aixois chef Pierre Reboul. Bar L'Alta has been the après-ski heartbeat of the resort for generations.
The original hotel of Serre Chevalier, founded in 1947 and completely redesigned in 2016 by architect Olivier Frémont. Step out the front door and the main gondola is right there — the ESF ski school meeting point is literally across the street. Inside, 64 rooms are decked in dark wood and raw materials, clean and modern with genuine alpine warmth. The Nuxe Spa, two restaurants co-created with Michelin-starred chef Pierre Reboul, and Bar L'Alta — the après-ski landmark of Chantemerle for decades — make this far more than a simple ski base.
