Grand Hotel Amrâth Kurhaus
Grand historic palatial — think 19th-century European resort hotel with a turreted dome, chandeliered interiors, and proper sea-air grandeur. Formal enough for a special occasion, accessible enough for families on a beach weekend.
Request a higher floor for unobstructed North Sea views — lower floors face the boulevard and get noise from entertainment venues.
Why It Matters
One of the oldest and most iconic hotels in the Netherlands, built in 1884–1885 by German architects. Kings and heads of state have stayed here. The Rolling Stones performed in the Kurzaal in 1964 and had to flee due to the crowds. The building is a national monument, and the Kurzaal ballroom ceiling was painted by Brussels artist Van Hoeck. It holds the largest terrace in Scheveningen.
The Kurhaus has been a fixture on the Scheveningen beachfront since its construction in 1884–1885, and it carries that history in every corner — from the ornate Kurzaal dome to the grand facades facing the North Sea. It's a 5-star hotel with 270 rooms and suites, 10 event spaces, a spa, and Restaurant Waves sitting right above the promenade. Part of the Dutch Amrâth Hotels group, it holds Tablet Hotels status. Fair warning: the standard rooms (20–25 sqm) are genuinely small for a 5-star, and some guests find the decor in certain areas dated. But the location and the building itself are genuinely hard to beat on the Dutch coast.
