Founded in 1793 when Duke Friedrich Franz I took his physician's advice to take the sea air, Heiligendamm spent decades in near-dormancy before a thorough restoration brought it back in 2003. Today six white heritage buildings — the Grand Hotel, Kurhaus, Haus Mecklenburg, Severin Palais, Orangerie, and the fairy-tale Burg Hohenzollern — house 181 rooms and suites, a Michelin-starred restaurant, and a 3,000 sqm spa in a setting that feels genuinely removed from modern life.
