Gurney's Newport Resort & Marina
Contemporary coastal New England resort. The Dawson Design Associates redesign pulls in warmth, simplicity, and maritime art throughout — local artist commissions, hand-crafted textiles from New England weavers' guilds, soft palettes evoking the bay. Not stuffy or Gilded Age grand; this is a comfortable, well-resourced resort that treats the harbor as the main event.
The Newport Neighbors offer (New England residents) gets you 10% off plus complimentary parking — worth stacking if eligible
Why It Matters
It's the only resort on Goat Island, giving guests water on nearly every side — something no other Newport property can replicate. The island position means consistent water exposure across almost all 257 rooms. Add a working marina, five on-site dining venues, and the best pool deck views in Newport, and it occupies a category of its own in the market.
The only resort on Goat Island — a 10-acre island connected to Newport by a short causeway. Cross that bridge and you're genuinely cut off from the mainland, harbor opening on both sides, the Newport Bridge framing one view and the city's historic waterfront on the other. This is the former Gurney's Newport Resort & Marina, which itself was a reinvention of the old Hyatt Regency Newport. Since April 2024, it's been Newport Harbor Island Resort, fully rebuilt with a $50 million renovation by Pebblebrook Hotel Trust. 257 rooms and 18 suites, five dining venues, a full-service spa, and a 22-slip marina that can take boats up to 240 feet.
