Book a Signature or Essentiel room for the abbey view — it's genuinely worth the upgrade

Why It Matters

The building is a genuine 19th-century presbytery on a quiet pedestrian square in the UNESCO-listed Presqu'île. L'Artichaut holds a Michelin 'Assiette' distinction and is genuinely popular with locals, not just hotel guests. The Maison Hand interior design has been widely covered in French design press.

A 4-star boutique hotel built into the former presbytery of the Saint-Martin d'Ainay basilica, which sits right across the square. Owner Arthur Laeuffer and Lyon design studio Maison Hand have reworked the 1852 building into 21 rooms spread across three floors — each floor has its own personality: 1970s references on one, clean Maison Hand contemporary on another, and an eclectic mix-and-match on the top. No pool. No gym. No spa. But the Michelin-listed bistronomic restaurant L'Artichaut and the all-day Café Basilic make up for plenty.

Where You'll Stay

4 room types available

L'Écrin
Standard Double

L'Écrin

From EUR195 / night

The hotel's smallest rooms — and cozy rather than cramped if you know what you're getting. These are designed as snug cocoons: perfect for a solo traveler or a couple who won't be spending much time in the room. Walk-in shower, 160cm double bed, and all the standard kit. Think of them as the entry point into the Maison Hand aesthetic, not a compromise.

L'Élégante

From EUR215 / night

At 25 sqm with a large sofa, these work well for a couple wanting space or a small family of three. The 180cm bed can be configured as twins. The bathtub is a step up from the Écrin. Decorated in the Maison Hand style — think considered color palettes, quality textiles, and furniture that actually has a story.

The top-tier rooms and the most design-forward in the building. Large windows flood them with light. Each one is different — you might get the TOGO sofa by Ligne Roset, the Mushroom chair by Pierre Paulin, or a bench from Maison Hand. All have a sitting area looking straight onto the basilica. These are the rooms people post about.
