Why It Matters
Ibiza's original five-star hotel and the only one for nearly two decades. Built by Belgian architect Daniel Lipszyc into the Na Xamena cliffs in 1971. The Eden Restaurant holds two Michelin stars under chef Fran López. The Cascadas Suspendidas thalassotherapy circuit — eight heated pools at different temperatures and pressures, set on the clifftop with open sea views — is one-of-a-kind. Celebrity guests over the decades have included Cristiano Ronaldo, Goldie Hawn, Peter Sellers, and François Mitterrand.
Hacienda Na Xamena sits 180 metres above the Mediterranean on a cliff in Ibiza's protected Es Amunts natural park — and it has done so since 1971. Belgian architect Daniel Lipszyc bought 150 hectares of raw land here (no road, no water, no electricity) and built something that looks as if the whitewashed walls grew out of the rock. It was Ibiza's first five-star hotel. The vibe is bohemian luxury with a very slow pace: no DJ sets, no beach clubs, just extraordinary views, a two-Michelin-star restaurant, and the famous Cascadas Suspendidas spa circuit suspended above the sea.
