Hammetts Hotel
Modern coastal-industrial boutique. Clean lines, Italian linens, leather accents, local maritime photography on the walls. More yacht club than beach resort.
Book a Marina King or Marina Grand King room for direct Yachting Center views — the courtyard-facing King rooms are quieter but lose the water view
Why It Matters
One of the only hotels actually built on Newport's working waterfront in recent memory. It brought real design ambition to a city full of historic inns and chain hotels. The on-site restaurant Giusto is headed by a James Beard-nominated chef. There's also a rotating public art gallery — the Sarah Langley Gallery — named for the only woman who ever owned this wharf.
Hammetts occupies one of the best spots in all of Newport: right on Commercial Wharf, with unobstructed views of the harbor and the Newport Yachting Center marina. The building is purpose-built contemporary, designed with a maritime-industrial aesthetic — think exposed materials, crisp blue and white, oversized windows, and zero nautical kitsch. It opened in June 2020 and has been on Condé Nast Traveler's Readers' Choice list ever since, ranking #25 in 2024.
