Why It Matters

Owned by Dartmouth College and operating since 1815, it's one of the few university-owned boutique hotels in the US. The location — literally on the Green, steps from the Hopkins Center for the Arts, Hood Museum, and the Appalachian Trail — is genuinely unmatched in the Upper Valley. Its PINE Restaurant has won the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence two years running.

The Hanover Inn sits directly on the Dartmouth College campus in a red-brick Federal-style building that dates to 1815, making it one of the longest-running hotels in New Hampshire. It's the only full-service, AAA Four-Diamond property in the Upper Valley, and the only hotel with a front-row view of Dartmouth Green. The neo-Georgian architecture is all original bones; the rooms, conference facilities, and PINE Restaurant are thoroughly modern underneath.
