Why It Matters

One of the very few hotels in the UK with a Michelin Green Star restaurant on site (Marle), a 17,000 sq ft biodynamic spa that has been called the best wellness space in the UK by The Times, and an estate where wild swimming, falconry, and cold-water immersion all happen before breakfast. Named to the Condé Nast Traveller Gold List (twice since opening) and the 50 Best Discovery list.

A Grade II listed Georgian house sitting on 438 acres of Hampshire countryside, about an hour from London. Heckfield took nine years and a meticulous restoration to open in 2018 — owned by billionaire Dr. Gerald Chan, who brought exacting standards to every detail, from the art on the walls (original Barbara Hepworth sketches, David Spiller paintings) to the biodynamic soil in the market garden. The whole place runs on a philosophy of regenerative land stewardship: an organic Home Farm, a biodynamic Market Garden, orchards, dairy herd and ancient woodland all feed into a hotel that is more working estate than polished retreat.
