Why It Matters
One of the few affordable ways to access Big Five prime territory on an unfenced private reserve. Manyeleti has only a handful of camps total, so game drives rarely encounter other vehicles. The reserve is owned and managed by the local Mnisi tribe.
Two unfenced tented camps sitting deep inside the private 23,000-hectare Manyeleti Game Reserve, which shares borders with Kruger National Park, Timbavati, and Sabi Sands. Khoka Moya and Mantobeni are just 5km apart but have distinct personalities — the former is more contemporary and family-friendly, the latter leans Hemingway-era colonial with an adults-only atmosphere. Rates are full board with two game drives a day included, and because Manyeleti has almost no other camps, the reserve roads are yours.

Khoka Moya Safari Tent

Each has canopied double or twin beds with cotton sheets and down duvets, a large daybed, writing desk, and fan. Behind a screen is a good-sized wet-room with a double shower, twin basins, and a flush toilet. Canvas walls and roll-up flaps bring the outdoors in. Big enough to sleep a family of four comfortably, with mosquito nets and a private outdoor seating deck.

Departs around 3:30–4:30pm (varies by season) and runs into darkness, allowing sightings of nocturnal species. Includes a sundowner drink stop. Returns in time for communal boma dinner.
Newly built birdwatching hide at Mantobeni, positioned opposite a watering hole. The reserve has 517 recorded bird species.
Armed ranger-led walking safari into the Manyeleti bush. Available as a morning (3 hours) or after-breakfast (1.5 hours) option. Focuses on tracking, smaller creatures, plants, insects, and birdlife. Adults 18+ only. Adrenaline-level encounters with elephant and lion on foot are possible.
Open 4x4 safari vehicle game drive departing between 5:30am and 6:30am depending on season. Approximately 3 hours with a bush stop for snacks and hot beverages. Rangers are expert trackers with deep knowledge of Manyeleti's 147 mammal species, 517 bird species, and more. Because Manyeleti has so few camps, you'll rarely encounter other vehicles.

Weekly communal dinner around a fenced bush campfire (boma). Weather-dependent. Features the sounds of the African night and often singing from camp staff.
