Hope Springs Resort
Minimalist mid-century California motel, deliberately quiet and screen-free. No TVs, no background music, no phones by the pool. Think concrete floors, platform beds, yellow-painted walls, white robes, and the sound of absolutely nothing.
Kitchenette rooms (1, 4, 6, and 8) can be selected at booking — grab one if you want to self-cater beyond the communal kitchen
Why It Matters
Michelin Guide listed. Featured in British Vogue, Travel + Leisure, Condé Nast Traveler, Wallpaper, and Vanity Fair. Has a genuine cult following — early guests included David Hockney, Matthew McConaughey, and Rick Owens. One of the few places in the Greater Palm Springs area where the mineral pools draw from an actual on-site well, flowing 24/7 without sulfur odor.
Hope Springs is a 10-room adults-only boutique hotel in Desert Hot Springs, California — about 20 minutes north of Palm Springs proper. Built in 1963 and originally called La Bella Sari Lodge, it was revived in 1999 by Slash magazine founder Steve Samiof and quickly became a cult favorite among artists, designers, and anyone desperate to actually switch off. The whole place runs on two things: mid-century modernist architecture and naturally occurring geothermal mineral water, which feeds three pools at different temperatures around the clock.

On Property
How you'll actually spend your days.
Outdoor BBQ on the patio available to all guests. Works well paired with a grocery run before arrival.
Three pools filled with natural geothermal mineral water drawn from an on-site well, flowing 24 hours a day. The ambient pool is for swimming laps and cooling off. The 92°F / 33°C pool is near body temperature for long, comfortable soaking. The 104°F / 40°C pool is the hottest, great for muscle relief before bed. No sulfur odor. Water contains calcium, sulfates, silica, bicarbonates, and magnesium. Bathing suits required.
The entire property is available for private buyout — yoga retreats, corporate weekends, small weddings, and creative retreats. Coordinates directly through the hotel.
Desert Hot Springs has minimal light pollution, and Hope Springs' outdoor spaces are well positioned for clear-sky viewing. The high desert night sky is one of the property's quiet pleasures.
