Hotel Alte Mühle
Rustic-elegant Alpine inn. Lived-in, personal, no corporate sheen. The wood is real, the owners are present, and the food comes from the valley.
Ask Sepp about the Nepal climbs over a post-dinner glass of wine — he'll talk for hours
Why It Matters
Member of Tablet Hotels. Sepp personally climbed with South Tyrol mountaineering legend Hans Kammerlander. The restaurant is listed in Michelin and Veronelli guides. Certified Alpine Wellness hotel — the only such certified property in the Tauferer Ahrntal. The sauna features 350-year-old wood salvaged from Sepp's childhood home.
Sepp grew up on a farm in Valle Aurina, climbed peaks in Nepal with Hans Kammerlander, and eventually fell for a woman from Florence who left her city for him and this old mill. That story runs through everything at the Alte Mühle. It's a small, personally run 4-star hotel in a restored mill on the banks of the Aurino river, 198 metres from the centre of Campo Tures. Beatrice handles the front-of-house warmth; Sepp runs the kitchen and takes guests into the mountains. Twenty-eight rooms in solid Swiss stone pine, spruce, and larch. A compact but genuinely considered spa. And a restaurant that both Michelin and the Veronelli guide have paid attention to.
